EF Virtual Information (K-12)

Overview

EF Virtual is an asynchronous learning option for grades K–12. Students complete online modules independently each day. There is no live instruction by default (see “Learning Platforms” below).

Attendance and Time Expectations
  • Students must log in each school day for attendance purposes.
  • A good rule of thumb is 4–6 hours of coursework per day.
  • Some students find online courses more challenging than in-person, so consistent daily engagement is essential.
Learning Platforms
  • Grades K–5: Accelerate Learning (includes a synchronous option).
  • Grades 6–12: Edgenuity.
  • Teachers respond to student questions via email in a timely manner.
Orientation / Intake
  • Intakes begin after the school year starts and throughout the school year
  • Students are excused until intake occurs.
  • The Cyber Coordinator will arrange an intake meeting with the parent/guardian

High School (Grades 9–12)

  • Parking and Transportation
    • Parking passes for 11th–12th graders are forfeited for the remainder of the year while enrolled in EF Virtual.
    • Steel Center students: Families must provide transportation to EFHS at 11:30 a.m. or directly to Steel Center.
Electives
  • Some specialized electives (e.g., Esports, FabLab) are not available in EF Virtual.
  • A closest-match elective will be substituted.
  • Students will still earn the same number of credits they had scheduled entering the semester.
AP and Honors
  • Students will be scheduled into regular sections of courses, as the EF Virtual catalog is more limited than in-person offerings.
Students with IEPs
  • Students with IEPs are strongly encouraged to remain in-person whenever possible.
  • Any student with an IEP must have an IEP meeting before transferring into EF Virtual.
  • If virtual placement is necessary, the cyber special education teacher will work with the student’s team to modify the IEP accordingly.
  • An IEP meeting will be scheduled and include the student’s case manager, principal, and counselor.
Counseling Support
  • School counselors are available to support all EF Virtual students across grade levels.
  • Counselors will provide academic, social-emotional, and college/career support, just as they would for students attending in-person.
State Assessments
  • All students are required to take state assessments in person (PSSA/Keystone).
  • Families will receive a letter with the specific testing dates and additional details.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring students attend on the scheduled dates.
Transfers
  • Transfers into or out of EF Virtual Academy should occur at grading periods.
  • Exceptions may be approved by the building principal and cyber principal.
